About Emily Hughes
Welcome! I am thrilled to embark on this journey of doing all the things I love: teaching, moving, and connecting with each and every one of you.
Before I share the wonderful creation of The Terra Class with you, I would like to share how it all came about...
It all began when I received my RYT-200 hour yoga teacher training certificate in 2019. It seemed like the perfect combination. Teaching (which I always loved to do since a young age, always playing "teacher" with my sisters) and moving my body. I had a love for providing safe and self-love tips for students who were pregnant.
When I entered Thomas Jefferson University's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, my first class that I took was anatomy and physiology with cadaver lab. When we dissected the pelvis, I was completely intrigued and fascinated by the bony structure. The muscles were smaller than you can imagine and intricately woven together, creating one of the most important structures in our bodies that supports each of us physically and emotionally. No offense, the legs are great, but I just wanted to continue studying and understanding the pelvis!
When I graduated DPT school in 2022, I planted seeds of creating something that involves what I deeply love: teaching, movement, meditation/inquiry, and pelvic health. Throughout this time, I also began worked as an outpatient physical therapist in the outskirts of Boston, MA treating across all ages and walks of life. My love continued to grow as I specialized in pelvic health physical therapy. I currently treat women ranging from prenatal, postpartum and other pelvic conditions involving bowel and bladder dysfunctions to general pelvic pain/dysfunction. My journey through meditation and nervous system integration began through techniques that I have learned through my own self-learning and experiences, expanding in deep restorative sequences intertwined with self inquiry and to connect to the heart center.
While I love individually treating, I began experiencing burnout in the clinic. I deeply long to help more soon-to-be moms, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts in ways that align with who I am. After many hikes, journaling and talking to my partner, Austin, The Terra Class was born.
The Terra Class is rooted in love, kindness and groundedness. It was created to welcome and support all ages and walks of life, including prenatal and postpartum individuals. The Terra Class cultivates guide-led functional movement strategies, integral education and heart-centered inquiry in order to live life with greater trust, care, and self-understanding.
Come join us with tea, coffee, or another warming beverage of your choice and comfortable, natural lighting if that calls you! Comfy clothes are essential! We welcome loving pets and babies! After all, movement should be fun and integrated with the environment and people around us!
Finding your rhythm takes time. If you need more clarity before we begin, you can find it here.
